How Do I Install a Network Installation of SolidWorks?

This document will cover the process of installing a Network License of SOLIDWORKS for the first time.

Note: If you are upgrading SOLIDWORKS please refer to our SOLIDWORKS Installation Upgrade – Network guide. 

If your serial number contains a “1” for the 3rd digit, you’re in the right place. If the 3rd digit is a “0” please see out “Standalone installation of SOLIDWORKS” guide.

Before we get started – You’ll need the following

  • Verify System meets SOLIDWORKS requirements. https://www.solidworks.com/support/system-requirements
  • License Server has been installed and that you have the name of the computer it was installed on. Ex: 25734@SWLicenseServer
    • For setup information see: Installing the SolidNetWork License Manager
  •  Local Administrator account access. 

Downloading Installation Files

  1.  Log into the SOLIDWORKS Support Download page https://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/downloads.htm 

  2.  Select the “SOLIDWORKS Version” and then click “SOLIDWORKS Products” for the Service Pack you wish to download 
  3.  Accept the Customer License Agreement 
  4.  Select “Download” to download SolidWorksSetup.exe 
  5.  Locate SolidWorksSetup.exe (This will typically be in your Windows “Downloads” folder) 
  6.  Right click on “SolidWorksSetup.exe” and choose “Open” 
  7.  Choose where to extract the files.  Be sure to check “When done unzipping open:” to auto launch the Installation Manager 
  8.  Choose “Download and share all files”  

We are downloading a full copy of the SOLIDWORKS DVD for this installation and all future installs of this version. You can share this download with others at your company

9.  Summary: Confirm the download location, you can select “Change” to adjust the location.  Accept the “License Agreement” If all looks correct “Download Now” 

Starting the Installation

  1.  To start the installation after the download has completed, go to the Download to:” location chosen in “Step 9 above.  Looks for Setup.exe, right click and choose Run as Administrator
  2.  Specify the installation type: We will be covering “Install on this computer” in this guide. 
  3.  Enter your Serial Number(s) for SOLIDWORKS and any other products. NOTE: if the 3rd digit of your SN is a “0” STOP and use the Standalone Installation Guide 
  4.  OPTIONAL: Click “Change” to adjust any of the following areas. 
  5.  Accept the terms of the License Agreement, then select Install 
  6.  Enter your License Server info provided from your IT Department 

    6.1 If the message below appears this means that your client PC cannot connect to the License Server. Select “Yes” to continue the installation and review our Troubleshooting the SNL Firewall Guide 

7. Install Complete: If you experienced any failure during the install, please “Save Logs for Support” and create a new Support Case with the CADimensions Team 

Congratulations, you should now be able to open your new SOLIDWORKS Network licensed version and begin designing great things.
