What is the CEF Error and how do I fix it?
If you encounter an error while installing a 3DEXPERIENCE Add-in stating that the CEF for SOLIDWORKS Application was not found, there is a quick way to fix it.
The CEF (Chromium Embedded Framework) is component installed by the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager to show content for SolidWorks Applications and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Without it, SolidWorks will not run properly.
However, it is a simple error to fix!
Open a File Explorer Tab and locate the folder for your SolidWorks installation media. It should read SOLIDWORKS 202x SPX:
Once inside the folder, navigate to the sub-folder swcef:
Inside of the swcef folder, you will find an installer named CEF for SOLIDWORKS Applications.msi:
Double click the installer and you will be presented with an installation wizard:
Click through Next and then Install:
You can double check that the file has fully installed by looking in your computer's installed applications for CEF for SOLIDWORKS Applications
Once the program has finished installing, you are good to go!
