During our recent Egg Drop Competition here at CADimensions, each of our teams had to collaborate to craft designs for devices that would protect an egg from a falling brick. 3DLean was indispensable to our planning process!
3DLean is one of many collaborative applications to help companies and teams plan out projects.
Found under the Communications tab, 3DLean features four default widgets, Team, Sketch, Problem Log & Action Log. (Though more can always be added as needed!)
For our purposes in designing our Egg Drop devices, the whiteboard Sketch widget was by far the most useful. It allowed each designer to draft quick sketches of their ideas and share them with the rest of the team in real time!
The Sticky Note tool also came in handy, allowing us to clarify our designs or add crucial notes to refer to later.
During our collaborative planning stage, we spent most of our time hashing out and refining different design ideas in the whiteboard Sketch widget, we still had to set goals for our build.
To switch out of our maximized Sketch widget and move to the Action log, we simply minimized our screen, then returned to the 3DLean top view, as shown in the video below:
Once our basic design was laid out, we set some goals for our coming week as we neared the build day deadline.
These goals were available to all members of the Team and modified throughout our planning to keep us on track to drop day.
And in the end, we did win!
