SOLIDWORKS Connected Premium - Missing Simulation? Here's how to install it!

If you're using SOLIDWORKS Connected Premium and noticed that Simulation isn't currently installed, there's a few extra steps you need to follow.

When you purchase SOLIDWORKS Premium, you get a license of SOLIDWORKS Simulation Standard included. However, with the change to the platform, a lot of the naming has changed. Here in this guide I'll clear up some of that information for you; as well as show you how to install the apps properly.

First, it might be a good idea to translate some roles on the platform to the main app they use. Below is a list of common Simulation Apps and their platform counterpart.

Regular Simulation and Motion:

Role: SOLIDWORKS Simulation Designer
Notes: Comes with SOLIDWORKS Connected Premium
App: SOLIDWORKS Simulation
App: SOLIDWORKS Motion

Apps not included in a SOLIDWORKS Package, but are available for separate purchase:

Flow Simulation:

Role: Fluid Dynamics Engineer
App: Fluid Scenario Creation

Plastics:

Role: Plastic Injection Engineer
App: Plastic Injection

How to install these apps:

To install the app, confirm that you have the proper roles installed. In this guide, I'm going to focus on the Simulation Designer. Click on your Compass at the top left and confirm you have this role. If you do not have the role assigned, check inside of your Members Control Center. You should see your account, and check on the role, or you can look at the role and check your name/account inside it's menu.

You can then click on the role (hightlighted above), or search for it in the apps. It's easier to click on the roles as its associated apps will be highlighted for you. Inside this menu you will have two options. Motion, and Simulation. In this case, we are just installing the standard Simulation; you can choose to install the Motion suite if you require it. To install the app, click on the down arrow and press Install Now.

Then follow the prompts to Install all associated roles if it asks. It may take a little bit but it will install to your existing installation of 3D EXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Connected. Once installed, you can just start up Connected and turn on the Add-In. I prefer to do it from the Add-In's menu. At the gearwheel on the top bar, press the down arrow next to it, and select "Add-Ins".

Check on the box on the left to turn it on just for this session of SOLIDWORKS Connected. Check the box on the right if you always want it on when you start SOLIDWORKS Connected.

If you have the other products I mentioned above, you can repeat this process for the Roles and the Apps I mentioned in the summary.

If you are having any trouble installing these products, please place a case on our website!
