Using 3DSWYM to Collaborate

Recently the support team here at CADimensions participated in a design challenge to create a 3D printed device that could protect an egg from a brick dropped from various heights.

The project was carried out using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to create a dashboard for the project where we utilized SOLIDWORKS Connected, FEA studies, 3DPlay, 3DLean, and 3DSWYM in the cloud. Since the three members of my team worked remotely from 3 different states and we had a limited amount of time to complete the project, communication was very important.

Here is how we set up one of the tools we used, 3DSWYM

We first created a new dashboard by selecting the “Plus”.

Then we added a description and a name.

Once a dashboard was set up, we created a communication tab.

Next, we clicked on the compass to find the apps, dragged the 3DSWYM app out and adjusted it to the desired size.

Each team member selected the type of notifications they wanted to receive for 3DSWYM (and other apps) by clicking on the bell in the upper right of the browser next to their name where you can choose from four different notification types.

I prefer enabling Email notifications to receive notifications when the browser is not open.

Now that 3DSWYM was set up, it was ready for us to select the "+ Content" button to create a new post.

While we did collaborate in real-time when using the whiteboard, problem log, and action log in the 3DLean app, 3DSWYM allowed us to extend that collaboration while we were working at separate times on items we wanted to discuss.

Using 3DSWYM along with other 3DEXPERIENCE apps allowed us to brainstorm, communicate, design, and test while being physically located in different states in an efficient manner. If you were wondering how my team did, stay tuned for the release of the videos!
