We will discuss how to add a Bounding Box and automatically get the dimensions of a shipping container
To access this tool for an assembly start by going to the assembly tab. From there select the Reference Geometry button and near the bottom will be Bounding Box. To access it in a part the procedure is the same but it is now labeled as Features. You can also search for it in the commands search bar.
Once selected the bounding box options will open on the left panel and will allow you to change the settings to include or not include certain parts. You can also show the preview of the current model loaded by checking it off at the bottom. The nice thing about this is that it will be applied to the file and will update to different configurations.
While seeing the bounding box creates a good visual the real power is in the custom properties. The dimensional data is automatically added as a configuration specific custom properties for Length(L), Height(T), Width(W) & Volume(V).
These are linkable properties that you can use for tables or notes and will automatically update for you.
