There's a small handful of settings buried within the 3DX platform that will grant users some basic capabilities to solve their own problems, preventing several potential support tickets, and saving your IT department a lot of work.
One relatively common problem we run into happens when users of the Platform aren't allowed to install or uninstall their own programs. The company's internal IT, or at least someone with admin privileges on the platform, has to get involved in order to go through this simple and common process. It's often easier for all involved to just let the user take care of the situation themself, without a technical support ticket ever having to get involved. Thankfully, it's a simple and quick process to adjust this setting for the platform at hand.
Note: In order to turn this setting off, you'll need to have Admin privileges to the platform you are using.
1) Go to your own 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. Usually the simplest and fastest way to get there is through the URL: solidworks.com/3dx
It will request that you login with your username and password.
2) Locate the Members Control Center app under the Compass menu. Note that this will only be available to admins of the platform.
3) Go under the Configure Apps Installation tab along the top of the 3DX window.
4) Turn the "Lock access to install apps for all members" setting OFF
5) While you're here, you might as well make sure the other three settings are off as well. They're all very self-explanatory, and I have never personally seen them actually serve a practical purpose.
Users of your platform should now be able to install, uninstall, or update software at will. This will definitely save the IT department a fair amount of time and effort, and it will save the other platform users a good deal of headaches.
