This article will outline the differences between 3DDrive and 3DSpace so you can assess which will work better for your project.
3DDrive
3DDrive is a type of cloud storage similar to Google Drive or Dropbox that can be utilized to store, share, access and edit files from any device using the 3DExperience platform. Users can set up their own drive and even invite other users to collaborate. Multiple users can then simultaneously create and edit Microsoft documents within the drive.
There is even a plug-in that can be used in conjunction with 3DDrive to integrate it with Windows File Explorer, offering users the ability to save files locally.
3DSpace
3DSpace is a more traditional cloud storage system that requires each user to be a licensed platform user and have access permissions. It is includes functions similar to a data vault that allows users to control revisions and maturity levels automatically. By uploading files to a collaborative space, they can be set to read-only as "Released" or locked by a user with "In Work" to prevent other users from editing at the same time.
Which should I use?
3DSpace is the most effective for managing project files for engineering and design teams. With its PLM functions, it's easier to control files for revisions and approvals. File regulation is helped and maintained by only allowing licensed platform users to access 3DSpace.
3DDrive is a better option for projects that need more flexibility in sharing and accessing files, particularly with external users. While files are not regulated by maturity statuses they are stored in more traditional folder structures, making it easier to navigate for users less familiar with PLMs. It is also easier to share files with external users since they are not required to be licensed platform users.
So if you are looking for a more secure, exclusive file sharing system, 3DSpace is the best choice!
If you need a more a open plan to easily share files internally and externally, 3DDrive is what you need!
